Popular Biking Trails with Inspiring Views

Arizona is actually one of the greatest states for hitting the road on two wheels because of all the sunshine and dry weather, despite the oppressive summer heat. On a picturesque trail, cyclists have a plethora of possibilities for riding and are sure to encounter a wide range of landscapes. These are a few of the state’s most stunning and tranquil outdoor areas where you can ride your bicycle.

1. Tucson's Saguaro National Park East Your Heading

This rugged, paved, and 8-mile loop in one of the bike-friendliest cities of Tucson is filled with several types of desert vistas. The East Loop of Saguaro National Park is ideal for a family ride on a Sunday afternoon.

The Saguaro National Park East also known as Cactus Forest Loop Road or “The Loop,” is one of the most well-liked cycling routes in this region. Even though it’s a difficult ride, it’s excellent for families, new cyclists, or even experienced bikers looking for a leisurely ride. While riding the trail through the cactus forest, you can take in the stunning desert vistas and native fauna.

2. Tucson, Mount Lemmon

One of the state’s most beautiful cycling routes is up Mount Lemmon, which is a favourite among local riders. Even professional riders have trained there! The journey to Mount Lemmon can be anywhere between 30 and 60 miles. As you ascend, the temperature dramatically drops, so wear warm clothing!

For the majority of the course, this ride is along a paved road with a wide shoulder. Although the journey begins in a desert landscape with saguaro cacti and mesquite trees, it ends in a canopy of pine trees where you may enjoy the fresh, cool mountain air.

3. Tortilla Flats, County of Maricopa

This trail provides bikers with an amazing ride over the Superstition Mountains with breathtaking scenery, and there are lots of rest places along the way. The entire distance, if you complete it all, is a little over 90 miles.

On this well-maintained, rolling section of the highway, use caution and pay attention to approaching cars. Before descending into the Salt River Canyon, this route gradually climbs into the isolated countryside. This path, which is frequently called a “roller coaster of a ride,” takes you alongside the lovely Canyon Lake before bringing you to the historic saloon at Tortilla Flat. You might also see magnificent wildflower meadows if you’re cycling on this road in March or April. There are many rest sites along the journey, making it easy to stop for a brief lunch, drink, or rest if necessary.

4. Route to Indian Bend Wash in Maricopa

The 11.8-mile Indian Bend Wash Walk winds through Scottsdale’s neighborhoods and parks, offering a lush, shaded contrast to the surrounding canal routes that run alongside the sun-drenched Phoenix skyline. Users can avoid heavy cross traffic with more than 20 grade-separated crossings on the greenbelt. The trail travels past a number of neighborhood parks along the way.

5. Maricopa, Arizona Canal Trail

One of Maricopa County’s longest multi-use paths is the Arizona Canal Trail. The route provides access to a number of residences, shopping centers, educational facilities, and other recreational choices. The trail is occasionally paved, and other times it is not.

One of the greatest spots to cruise in Phoenix is along the Arizona Canal route, which has 10 miles of bike-only lanes. The Arizona Canal Trail is one of the safest and most efficient ways to see the city.

6. Charles Huckelberry Loop

Cycling on the Chuck Huckelberry Loop is simple, thanks to its continuous smooth asphalt surface. Also, there are moderate and steady elevation gains, with a total gain of almost 1,000 feet. The loop traverses a number of rivers and streams. It is quite user-friendly because it has access to more than 20 parks with amenities and at least 15 bathrooms located along its length. Also, local bike stores let people without their own mobility rent bicycles for an hour or a day.

7. Cottonwood Mingus Mountain Loop

You can be sure that over a 91-mile loop that departs from Cottonwood will make your heart race. This beautiful trail, which has varied degrees of difficulty, offers cyclists a breathtaking perspective of Verde Valley, particularly in the fall when the trees are changing.

8. Course of El Tour de Mesa

Bikers can travel down the Salt River and into Scottsdale on this route, which is used each year for the El Tour de Mesa competition. Saguaro Lake passing by is merely one of the visual benefits!

9. Kiwanis Park Lakefront Trail

This 0.8-mile loop goes around Kiwanis Lake and the many lovely trees that line its perimeter. It’s a truly unmatched location for a bike ride, with individuals fishing and families enjoying the outdoors.

Top 8 Florida Bike Trails

The nation’s top bike trails are in Florida. The area is a cyclist’s paradise with excellent biking weather all year long, lots of scenic views, and flat terrain. Here is my list of the top Florida bike trails, which aren’t in any particular order of excellence.

1. Trail Van Fleet

Want to ride a bike across rural Florida to get away from the city? Whether you’re cycling by yourself, with a group, or with your family, the General James A. Van Fleet State Trail is the ideal route to go.

The Van Fleet State Trail, a former railroad that stretches 29.2 miles along State Highway 50 from Polk City to Mabel, is one of Florida’s most remote paved paths. With the exception of one tiny twist, the road is largely level and straight and includes the picturesque wetlands and animals for which Florida is most well-known. The Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve is traversed by this trail, which will take you through a variety of environments along the way, including a river swamp, bottomland forest, pine Flatwoods, and cattle ranches.

West Orange Trail Florida Bike Trail

2. The West Orange Trail

The 22-mile West Orange Trail, another well-traveled rail-trail in the Sunshine State, is located only approximately 20 minutes from Orlando. The West Orange Trail is a smooth, well-marked route that’s ideal for cyclists who are training or simply out for a leisurely ride.

This trail passes through agricultural and residential settings. The Oakland Nature Preserve, which is an excellent location to stop, explore, and take in views of Lake Apopka as you bike through Oakland, is just off the route. As you arrive at Killarney Station, the terminus of the West Orange Trail, continue bicycling for another 9.5 kilometers to continue your experience. The South Lake Trail, which leads to the Lake Minneola Scenic Trail and provides more picturesque vistas of Lake Minneola, will come into view. Training riders are also drawn to this portion of the track.

Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail

3. Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail

It starts from Key Largo to Key West, there are more than 90 miles of a paved trail that make up the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail. The route provides cyclists with an enjoyable and picturesque option to tour the Florida Keys, running parallel to U.S. Highway 1. Although this trail is flat and only gains around 50 feet in height, it is renowned for its amazing animal viewing and views.

You’ll pass over 23 of the iconic, more than a century-old Flagler Railroad bridges while bicycling the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail. As there are no cars around, you can fully appreciate all the amazing wildlife you pass along during the trip.

4. Blackwater Heritage State

The 9.6 miles of the paved Blackwater Heritage State Trail in West Florida trace the path of a former railroad. The visitor center in Milton, which is about a mile from the start and has lots of parking, restrooms, and even a playground for kids, is a pleasant ride through flat rural and urban regions.

The Florida countryside is beautifully visible from this level, well-kept trail. It’s perfect for new cyclists, but even seasoned riders will find it enjoyable. You’re sure to appreciate the wildflower-filled natural setting as you pedal over wooden bridges that cross peaceful creeks as you explore this trail. At the gates of Naval Air Station Whiting Field, the route comes to an end.

5. Courtney Campbell Trail

The Courtney Campbell Trail connects Clearwater and Tampa in a secure manner while providing breathtaking panoramic views of Upper Tampa Bay. Although the 9.5-mile track runs parallel to the Courtney Campbell Causeway, there is no automotive risk, and there are broad barriers and bridges to keep you away from the road.

You’ll pass over two bridges with great views along the way, including a 45-foot-high bridge that is located around halfway through the walk. The Courtney Campbell Trail, one of Florida’s more well-known paths, is a favorite among cyclists.

6. East Central Regional Rail Track

The 52-mile East Central Regional Rail Trail is a popular route for commuter cyclists and recreational riders. Many cyclists in Florida enjoy the East Central Regional Rail Trail’s urban and distant rural landscapes. Also, this route’s numerous rural straightaways may appeal to road cyclists.

This trail offers a tranquil and picturesque experience through east-central Florida and has a ton of amazing local fauna. It is a moderately difficult ride. The East Central Regional Rail Trail offers something for every cyclist, whether they are seeking a leisurely, recreational ride or are in it for the distance and speed.

7. Baldwin-Jacksonville Rail Trail

The Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail, which is situated west of Jacksonville’s downtown, travels through some of Northeast Florida’s most picturesque landscapes. The rail-trail travels 14.5 miles west to the quaint village of Baldwin. Many species of birds, including hawks, wood storks, and belted kingfishers, as well as other wildlife, can find refuge in the shady passage. This trail offers a spot to explore the grounds and learn about local history while strolling along a nature path and boardwalk.

8. Trail of Fred Marquis Pinellas

The roughly 50-mile Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail lets visitors explore the charms of Florida’s western shore, including Gulf Coast views and a delightful combination of metropolitan shoreline and small downtowns. Ride your bike to the close-by Honeymoon Island State Park for a relaxing swim and a stroll through the pine Flatwoods. The Coast-to-Coast Connector Trail, a 250-mile route across the state, and a 75-mile loop connecting Pinellas County are two exciting trail systems that this Hall of Fame rail trail contributes to.

Final Verdict

Florida has a ton of fantastic riding paths, as you can see from the top eight cycling destinations! There is something for everyone in Florida. Whether you’re on a family vacation, a beginner level cyclist exploring your possibilities, or an experienced cyclists getting ready for your next competition.

Electric Bicycle Gazelle

Electric bikes are a great way to get around town and are becoming increasingly popular. However, if you want your e-bike to last as long as possible, it is important to maintain it properly. This blog post will discuss how to maintain your electric bike in good condition so you can enjoy it for years to come!

Regularly check your tires

Ensure your tires are not worn or punctured, as this can be a major safety hazard when riding. Worn tires happen naturally over time, and it is recommend that you change your tires every year if you ride daily, or on harsh road conditions. If your tire tread is damaged, you will find you have reduced grip and less resilience to punctures.

Also, check the pressure in your tires regularly; over-inflated or under-inflated tire pressures will affect how your e-bike rides and may cause premature wear. Make sure you know the range of pressure your specific e-bike has. For example, Riese & Muller bikes have high volume tires, and will require lower PSI and a traditional road bike by about half! If you’re used to putting 80PSI into your road bike tires and attempt that with your Riese and Muller, you may burst the tire and damage the product, or even hurt yourself!

Ebike Maintain Battery

Charge your battery at least once a month

Make sure you are charging your battery regularly to ensure it is always ready to go when needed. Batteries naturally discharge themselves over time, so if you haven’t checked the battery for many weeks after charging, you may be surprised that it’s much lower than expected. Many electric bike batteries have built-in indicators that will tell you how much charge remains in the battery, and it’s important to keep an eye on this, so you can stay supplied when riding.

Urban Electric Bike Gazelle Medeo T9 City

Clean and lubricate your chain

It’s important to keep the drivetrain clean and well-lubricated for optimal performance. If you have a traditional chain drive system, use a degreaser to clean off any excess grease or dirt, then apply bike lube or oil as needed. Do not over apply lubricant as it will act as a glue for dirt and debris. The critical part of lubricating your chain is ensuring it penetrates the hinges of the chain, not coat the outside. This will help prevent rusting and ensure that your chain runs smoothly.

O2feel eBikes Carbone gates

If your bike has a belt drive, like most of the Riese & Muller, O2feel and Gazelle electric bikes, then your drive train requires no lubricant at all. However, it may be necessary to clean your drivetrain with soap and water if it becomes excessively dirty, and debris is causing the belt to run not smoothly on the cogs.

Store properly when not in use

When you’re done riding your ebike for the day, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or moisture. UV from the sun will damage the paint, and batteries do not appreciate being exposed to high temperatures like direct sun. If you plan on storing it outside during winter, cover it with a waterproof tarp or use a bike storage shed to keep it safe from the elements.

Clean regularly

Regularly wiping down and cleaning your e-bike is essential to ensure it continues optimally, and also becoming familiar with its components. During a routine wipe down, you will be able to take note if components get loose or have shifted around. Make note of these changes and contact your service centre if you have any concerns. Use a damp cloth or an air compressor to blow away dust, dirt, and debris, making sure to take care of all the small parts, like the suspension components, chainrings, and hubs. Take extra care not to get cleaning product on your brake rotors, as they can become contaminated and loose efficiency.

Electric Bike Repair Quantum eBikes

Electric bike maintain - Get regular maintenance checkups

E-bikes require more maintenance than regular bikes due to their extra electrical components. Have a professional do a thorough checkup every six months to ensure everything is in working order. This will help you spot any potential issues before they become major problems and keep your e-bike running smoothly for years to come!

Conclusion

By following the tips outlined above, you can ensure that your e-bike remains in good condition for a long time. Proper maintenance and care of your electric bike will help keep it running smoothly and efficiently so that you can enjoy all the benefits of owning an e-bike without worrying about constant breakdowns or repairs. You can keep your e-bike running for years with the right care and maintenance. How to maintain your electric bike? If you have any further questions, contact us Quantum eBikes Electric Bikes.

Kinekt Tige de selle à suspension

A Comparison of Spring and Polymer Suspensions

When it comes to upgrading your bike, one of the first things to consider is your seat post. A suspension seat post can help to absorb bumps and vibrations, making your ride smoother and more comfortable. Two popular options on the market are the Kinekt Suspension Post and the Cane Creek Thudbuster. Both offer a level of suspension, but they use different technologies to achieve it.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the Kinekt Suspension Post and the Cane Creek Thudbuster and compare their features to help you make an informed decision.

Suspension Seatpost Kinekt

KINEKT Suspension Post

The Kinekt Suspension Post is a spring-based suspension seat post that uses a unique parallelogram design to provide up to 30mm of travel. The parallelogram design allows the saddle to move independently of the bike frame, which helps to absorb bumps and vibrations to your spine. The Kinekt Suspension Post also features a preload adjustment that allows you to fine-tune the suspension to your weight and riding style.

Spring suspension, as the name suggests, uses a spring to absorb vibrations and impacts. The spring is typically located between the seatpost and the frame of the bike. As the bike goes over bumps or rough terrain, the spring compresses and expands to absorb the shock, providing a smoother ride. The spring is usually made of steel, titanium, or composite materials such as carbon. In the case of the Kinekt, it uses steel, which is well known for its flexible quality.

Spring suspension can be adjusted to suit the rider’s weight and riding style by adjusting the preload on the spring. The preload refers to the amount of tension placed on the spring before it is installed in the seatpost. This allows the rider to fine-tune the suspension to their specific needs, and can be adjusted on the fly.

Spring suspension is considered to have a progressive spring rate, meaning that the resistance to compression increases as the suspension is compressed. This means that the suspension is stiffer at the beginning of the travel and softer at the end of the travel.

Overall, spring suspension is considered to be a more customizable option compared to polymer suspension, but it requires more maintenance and is more prone to wear and tear.

Suspension seatpost Cane Creek Thudbuster

CANE CREEK THUDBUSTER Suspension Post

The Cane Creek Thudbuster is a polymer-based suspension seat post that uses a parallelogram design to provide up to 50mm of travel. The parallelogram design allows the saddle to move independently of the bike frame, which helps to absorb bumps and vibrations. The Thudbuster uses an elastomer (polymer) instead of a spring which offers a more linear suspension travel.

In a nutshell, polymer suspension (also known as elastomer suspension) works by using a flexible polymer material to absorb vibrations and impacts. The polymer material is typically in the form of a small rubber-like cylinder or puck and it’s placed between the seatpost and the frame of the bike. As the bike goes over bumps or rough terrain, the polymer material compresses and expands to absorb the shock, providing a smoother ride.

The polymer material is typically made of a high-performance rubber-like compound that is designed to be durable, resistant to wear and tear, and able to withstand a wide range of temperatures.

The polymer suspension is considered to have a linear travel, meaning that the suspension travel is consistent throughout the travel. Unlike spring suspension, the polymer suspension does not have a progressive spring rate, which means that the resistance to compression does not change as the suspension is compressed.

Overall polymer suspension is considered to be a simpler, more reliable and maintenance-free option compared to spring suspension, but it also offers less adjustability.

Summary

Both the Kinekt Suspension Post and the Cane Creek Thudbuster are designed to absorb bumps and vibrations, but they use different technologies to achieve it. The Kinekt Suspension Post uses a spring-based suspension, which can be adjusted to your weight and riding style. The Cane Creek Thudbuster uses a polymer-based suspension, which offers a more linear travel.

When choosing between the Kinekt Suspension Post and the Cane Creek Thudbuster, it ultimately comes down to personal preference. If you’re looking for a suspension seat post that can be fine-tuned to your weight and riding style, the Kinekt Suspension Post may be the best option. If you’re looking for a suspension seat post with a more linear travel, the Cane Creek Thudbuster may be the better choice.

Conclusion

In conclusion, both the Kinekt Suspension Post and the Cane Creek Thudbuster Suspension Post are excellent options for upgrading your bike’s seat post. They both offer a level of suspension, but they use different technologies to achieve it. The Kinekt Suspension Post uses a spring-based suspension, which can be adjusted to your weight and riding style, while the Cane Creek Thudbuster uses a polymer-based suspension, which offers a more linear travel. Ultimately, the choice comes down to personal preference, so it’s worth testing them both out before making your decision.

Gepida Thoris Voyage XT-11 Tandem Electric Bike

A Rich Past & an Exciting Future!

A Brief History

Tandem bikes, affectionately known as “bicycles built for two,” have a long and interesting history dating back to the late 19th century. The first known tandem bike patent was filed in 1891 by William Van Anden of New York. The design featured two saddles, one behind the other, with both riders pedaling a single chain. In the early 20th century, tandem bikes began to evolve and the design changed to feature two separate chains, one for each rider. This design allowed for more efficient pedaling and made it possible for the riders to have their own gear ratio.

In the early days, tandem bikes were primarily used for racing and were popular among competitive cyclists. They were also used for touring and long-distance riding as they allowed two people to cover more ground and carry more gear. While tandem racing has faded in popularity, tandem touring is still a very popular way for couples to explore on two wheels.

During World War II, tandem bikes were used for military training and transportation. The US Army used tandem bikes to train soldiers in bike maintenance and repair, and the British Army used them for reconnaissance missions. After the war, tandem bikes continued to evolve and became popular among recreational riders. Notably, they were also used by people with disabilities as they allowed them to ride with a partner who could provide assistance if needed.

In recent years, electric tandem bikes have become increasingly popular. These bikes feature a motor that provides power assistance to the pedals, making it easier for riders to tackle more challenging terrain and take longer rides…

The Benefits of an Electric Tandem Bike with a Bosch Motor

Tandem bikes are a fun and unique way for couples to experience the joys of cycling together. However, riding a traditional tandem bike can be challenging, especially if one person is not as experienced or fit as the other. This is where an electric tandem bike comes in. An electric tandem bike, like the Gepida Tandem voyage , equipped with a Bosch CX motor, offers a number of benefits over a traditional tandem bike. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at these benefits and why a couple should consider an electric assist version.

Power Assistance

The Bosch CX motor provides power assistance to the pedals, making it easier to ride uphill and against headwinds. This means that both riders can pedal together and enjoy the ride, regardless of their fitness level. The motor also features a range of modes, from Eco to Turbo, allowing the rider to choose the level of assistance that best suits their needs.

Longer Rides

An electric tandem bike with a Bosch motor allows couples to take longer rides and explore more areas than they would be able to on a traditional tandem bike. The motor provides an extra boost, allowing riders to cover more distance and tackle more challenging terrain. This is a major factor if you are considering touring on your tandem bicycle!

Smooth and Comfortable

The Bosch CX motor provides a smooth and natural riding experience, with minimal noise and no sudden jerks. This makes it easy for both riders to stay in sync, even when navigating rough terrain. The Gepida Tandem Voyage is also equipped with a suspension fork system which provides a smooth and comfortable ride. You can further your comfort by adding a Kinekt suspension seatpost or Thudbuster seatpost for one or both riders.

Fun for Both Riders

An electric tandem bike with a Bosch motor offers a fun and enjoyable experience for both riders. You must be open and communicative when using a tandem bike, so you quickly develop a tight riding bond with your riding partner. The power assistance allows the less experienced or fit rider to keep up with the more experienced or fit rider, making it possible for both to enjoy the ride together.

Conclusion

In conclusion, an electric tandem bike with a Bosch motor, such as the Gepida Thoris Voyage, offers a number of benefits over a traditional tandem bike. It provides power assistance, allowing couples to tackle more challenging terrain and take longer rides. It also offers a smooth and comfortable riding experience and is fun for both riders. If you’re looking for a unique and enjoyable way to experience cycling with your partner, an electric tandem bike is definitely worth considering.

Les infrastructures cyclables, luxe ou nécessité?

French version here.

Cycling Infrastructure: The Case of  The Netherlands

The Netherlands is renowned for having high bicycle use. The Dutch government spends an astonishing €510 million (€30 per capita) per year (1) on developing bike infrastructure. Looking at the staggering data, one might ask, why so much investment in bicycle infrastructure? And why are 17 million Dutch people obsessed with cycling as a means of transportation (2)?

To the outside world, it might look absurd, but to the Dutch people, it’s a way of living a happy and healthy life. The health benefits are immense. In a study, it was found that cycling alone prevents 6,500 deaths (3) in the nation and increases life expectancy as well. But it is not just about health. The economic side of it also indicates it to be a beneficial trade. The health benefits amount to more than 3% (3) of the overall gross domestic product of the Netherlands. As a result, investing more in bike infrastructure provides a high cost-benefit ratio for the country’s 17 million plus citizens.

Canada's Investment In Cycling

In Canada, too, people understand the benefits of cycling, and the cycling community is growing day by day. In 2020, in Montreal alone, 1.1 million people rode bicycles, while Quebec had 4.5 million bicycle users. However, the spending on cycling infrastructure is not enough to meet the needs of the growing community (4). Between 2006 and 2017, nearly 890 people died (5) while riding bicycles. The reasons vary, but the lack of a safe and secure bicycle infrastructure is a major contributor to the tragedy.

The Netherlands has continuous, wide, and well-maintained cycling paths, making it easier for the rider to navigate across the city and country. The paths are generally 4 meters wide, providing ample risk-free space to ride. The good cycling infrastructure translates into more and more people adopting it as a regular means of transport. In 2019, an estimated 22.9 million bicycles were in the Netherlands, of which 2.4 were electric ebikes (6). Every year, approximately one million bicycles are sold. If we look at the total population, which is 17 million, then it is evident how much the Dutch people love cycling, owning 1.3 bicycles per capita, which happens to be more than any country in the world (7). The wide cycling community wants cycling to be taken seriously in the country, so safe, secure, and smooth routes can be set up for people to ride bicycles.

Bike Lanes In Canada Are In Growing Demand

In Canada, the growing demand for good paths for cycling routes has been increasing. Last year, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Catherine McKenna and Parliamentary Secretary Andy Fillmore announced a funding commitment of $400 million over five years to help build and spread networks of paths, bike lanes, trails, and walker bridges (8).On average, $80 million dollars will be spent each year, which, in comparison, falls short. With a large population and urban areas, Canada requires more infrastructure spending. In the long run, investing more in cycling infrastructure makes perfect sense as the world moves toward more sustainable modes of transportation. Here are the main benefits…

Health: With accessible cycling routes, more people will adopt cycling, resulting in better health and a reduced problem of obesity. Approximately 26.8 percent of Canadians were classified as obese, with another 36 percent classified as overweight (9). Exposing them to health risks due to excess weight. Cycling can also reduce mental stress and depression. In short, it can improve the overall health of an individual.

Economic: An active lifestyle leads to less spending on healthcare needs, allowing individuals and governments to save vast sums of money in the long run. Bicycling requires less parking space, so there is no need to maintain huge and costly parking facilities.

Less fatal accidents: When compared with motor vehicle accidents, bicycle accidents are less likely to cause severe injury, adding to the average life expectancy of the country.

Environmental: Motor transport vehicles cause air pollution, leading to global warming. Gradually, if more and more people adopt cycling as a mode of travel, then the growing air pollution problem can be controlled. The transportation sector currently accounts for 27% of greenhouse gas emissions in Canada (10). More bicycles also mean less noise pollution.

Affordable transportation: Travelling on your ebike or bicycle is less expensive than driving a car or a motorcycle. While cars demand frequent repairs, ebikes/bicycles can be easily maintained and stored.

Better community building: Cycling is more than just a means of travelling; it is a fun activity which allows people to connect and share their experiences with each other. As a hobby, it is something on which people can connect and develop better community values.

Less congestion on the road: Cycling is an effective tool for reducing the increasing load of traffic. Frequent traffic jams can be avoided if more people use bicycles to cover short distances in the city.

In Summary, Luxury Or Necessity?

Unlike the perception of many people, cycling infrastructure is not a luxury but a necessity. In short, it is wiser to use your car on a rainy day and use bicycles/ebikes as much as you can to avail all the benefits mentioned above. As a community, we can start demanding cycling infrastructure on local levels and start using bicycles more. Today, there are a plethora of options, from conventional bicycles to ebikes, that can meet your specific needs.

We at Quantum electric bike are also working towards a better, healthier, and cleaner world with our wide range of ebikes, customised as per the needs of the user.

Choose the path of sustainability.

Vélo aux États-Unis

French version here.

On April 19, the League of American Bicyclists releases its 2022 report (1) ranking the 50 U.S. states by their efforts toward bicycle transportation. This annual ranking has existed since 2008 for one or more important reasons. Find out why.

Bicycle injuries and fatalities cost the United States $23 billion a year

According to a report (2) by the US Department of Transportation, cyclists represent more than 2% of people who die in an accident involving a motor vehicle… while they represent only 1% of trips in the country. Only this statistic, which explicitly illustrates the bicycle problem in the United States, is enough to motivate the key transport actors to find solutions.

Digging deeper, these actors conclude and highlight the tremendous role that individual state leadership plays in making the nation’s roads safer for cyclists. Indeed, while states only own 19% of roads in the United States, 38% of bicyclist deaths occur on those roads. This issue, which has become publicized, thus gives rise to the ranking of the 50 American states on bicycle transport.

How to rank states on bicycle transportation?

Evaluating and comparing territories on their involvement in the bicycle problem in the United States is something that is quickly said but not immediately done. After careful consideration, the league identifies five factors that will be used to rank states against each other.

Criteria include a Complete Streets policy, a safe passing law, a statewide bike plan, a 2% or more of federal transportation funds spending on biking and walking, and a bicycle safety emphasis area.

So who are the best… and the worst?

Among the fifty positions, the state of Massachusetts finds itself in first place, followed by Oregon and Washington. These positions have been earned in part through their bike safety education campaigns as well as their bike plans. At the bottom of the ranking, we find Nebraska and Wyoming in 49th and last position, due to a lack of public funding and infrastructure in place.

Elsewhere on the scale, California ranks 4th, Florida 8th and New York 13th. Hawaii, meanwhile, ranks 27th on the ranking with an average score, while Alaska finds itself in 41st place due to a lack of legislation and incomplete policies.

What does the future of bicycle transportation in the United States hold?

It goes without saying that American states are now motivated to invest more and more in making bicycle transportation safer and more accessible. For context, only 13 states adequately met four or five ranking factors in 2015. Now that number has nearly doubled to 24 states in total.

On the other hand, technological advances and the development of transport encourage the use of bicycles and reduce the risk of accidents. Outside the United States, for example, the Quantum eBikes company located in Quebec contributes to the safety of Canadian cyclists by introducing them to the electric bike, which has been shown to be safer than the traditional bicycle.

60% des cyclistes se disent plus en sécurité sur un vélo électrique.

Cycling comes with its share of risks. Road accidents are a reality, which is why it is essential to take all the necessary safety measures when riding a bike. What many people don’t know is that e-bikes can contribute to safer cycling, although you might think otherwise. Here’s why.

Safety, a priority for cyclists

In a survey (1) carried out in North America, a group of researchers found that safety is among the main criteria for North Americans when it comes to buying a bike. As it should be! Even though electric bikes offer a pleasant ride, while being beneficial to the cyclists’ health and to the environment, the fact remains that they must be used with precaution. After all, electric bikes are subject to traffic laws as, they share the same space with other vehicles such as cars, buses, trucks, motorcycles, etc.

The electric bike: safer than the standard bike

In North America, 60% of participants said they felt safer on an electric bike compared to a standard bike. Eight times more participants claimed to have avoided accidents thanks to the electric bike, compared to those who believed that the vehicle had contributed to it. According to a study (2) carried out by the same group of researchers, this can be explained by several reasons.

For example, by being able to cover longer distances, cyclists can take longer routes with their electric bike, to avoid unsafe regions. They can also accelerate faster to pass intersections and react more quickly in the event of an incident since their attention can be on the road, rather than on the bike itself.

Quantum: safety first

At Quantum, our customers’ safety is a priority. We take the time to share our expertise as best as we can, to advise you based on your needs and offer you the best e-biking experience possible. 28% des vélos électriques sont achetés pour remplacer une voiture à Londres

Rising traffic congestion contributes to worsening air pollution, delays bus and delivery services, and makes streets unpleasant for pedestrians and cyclists. More and more, big cities want to replace the car to improve the quality of life of their inhabitants thanks to electric bicycles. Discover the case of London.

Road congestion will cost London £9.3 billion a year

According to a 2013 study (1), 70% of the London workforce drove to work during rush hour. The average British driver would spend 124 hours a year in traffic jams. This figure should even increase to 136 hours in 2030. This is equivalent to 18 working days per year spent in traffic.

In the end, between the rising value of fuel, the time wasted in the car rather than being productive at work and the extra cost of transporting goods, traffic jams have a measurable economic impact on the London economy. £307 billion between 2013 and 2030 to be exact.

The electric bike: the solution to replace the car

Faced with the growing problem of traffic congestion in London, the city is turning to more sustainable transport solutions. This is considered essential both for the economy of the city and for the quality of life of its people. The plan is to make London the greatest cycling city in the world by improving its infrastructure and making cycling more accessible.

The good news is that according to a study (2), 81% of Londoners are already able to cycle. This figure could also increase with the diversification of vehicles, such as electric bicycles. Indeed, while 22% of Londoners say they are too old or not fit enough to ride a bike, electric bikes present themselves as an ideal solution to encourage reluctant city dwellers to replace the car. Additionally, the introduction of the bike-sharing scheme, Santander Cycle, is making e-bikes more accessible to Londoners.

Currently, two-thirds of short trips could be made by bicycle to replace the car, and this, in less than 20 minutes. By allowing London residents to make these journeys by bicycle, traffic congestion could be greatly reduced. 28% of electric bike owners (3) would have acquired their own to replace the car.

Quantum, leader in the democratization of electric bicycles in North America

At Quantum, we want to help North America make the same shift to more livable cities through e-bikes. In addition to the benefits to the local economy, e-bikes contribute to a cleaner environment and healthier residents. Are you going to participate in the change?

Do you hear more and more about electric bikes around you? If so, it’s no coincidence. Indeed, the market for electric bicycles is growing (1) not only in Quebec, but also internationally. And for good reasons: electric bikes have many advantages over traditional bikes, such as saving time. Whether it’s commuting to work or running errands, find out how investing in an electric bike can save you valuable time.

Electric bikes allow you to save 63 hours of time per year

A study conducted in 2017 (2) showed that the median speed of electric bicycles was 23.1 km/h and 18.4 km/h for a traditional bicycle. Thus, trips by electric bike were on average 21% faster than by traditional bike. This amounts to 21% of time saved in transport during the year.

Take for instance that it takes you 30 minutes to drive to work and 45 minutes to return, with traffic. In total, it adds up to 1h15 of transport per day. It is also about 25 hours per month, and 300 hours per year! By investing in an electric bike, this figure drops to 237 hours per year. It’s 63 hours saved, almost two weeks of work freed up in your agenda. What would you do with all this new free time?

Not to mention that in addition to saving money, switching from a car to an electric bike also allows you to increase your level of physical activity. This helps achieve the recommended 150 minutes of moderate physical activity weekly.

Quantum, your ally for a better quality of life

At Quantum eBikes, many clients invest in an e-bike to save time. For many, having more time in a day is an economic advantage. It allows them to save money by doing more, or simply spend more time with their family.

We are proud to have a sustainable positive impact on the lives of our clients and to help improve their quality of life by providing them with the best electric bikes on the market.

Now, are you ready to invest in your next electric bike to save time?

Buying a Gazelle electric bicycle

is one of the best decisions I have ever made! Yes, nothing less!

First, let’s get to know each other. I am active, energetic, and in great shape. I like to move, and exercise but ultimate performances and medals are not for me! Let’s say that I would prefer to spend my sporting activities in pleasure rather than in pain!

I love the outdoors; it calms and recharges my batteries! I love to feel the breeze, the sun, the smell of markets or fields … happiness! I also like the urban animation, the proximity, and the city buzz.

I have a sporty husband who, like me, likes outdoor activities, but without question his level of endurance is superior to mine! So, as you can imagine our bike rides were done in this sequence: bike – then a long wait by my darling husband during my extreme effort to join him. Bike some more – another long wait … and so on.

Although he gladly adapted his pace to mine and paused with joy, over time, I came to lose interest and suggested he ride without me.

A few years later, in the summer of 2019, my bike was hanging in the garage collecting dust. Walking and hiking had become my only summer activities, and more often than not without leaving the neighborhood.

The good times spent cycling with my sweetheart paraded like a film: the discoveries of a new neighborhood, or bike path … the landscapes, the stops for an ice cream or a café latté, the bike picnics with our bikes leaning against a tree and the feeling of well-being on the return.

So, was cycling a thing of the past for me? Or limited to riding alone, without my husband? Or again, riding as we had done previously with me not being able to keep up. What if there was another solution?

It was at this moment that I began to consider an electric bicycle but not without certain prejudices: I am in good shape, I am young … I wasn’t sure I had the profile of an ebike owner.

I decided to dig deeper into this idea and went to the QUANTUM eBikes store, the specialists in electric bikes. Their mission found meaning for me: Demystifying electric bikes and making them accessible to everyone.

I was greeted with a smile. They were interested in my needs. I was told the basics of electric bikes. Among other things, I learned that it is possible to ride a pedelec without motor assistance, by simply using the gears – if that’s what you want. And then when you want a little boost, for the climb just ahead or to go faster or further, you then choose a level of assistance. I took the time to learn about eBikes, and without pressure, was presented with high quality major brands, and all very beautiful eBikes.

During this time, I observed the comings and goings of customers in the shop:

  • a client in his thirties using his EAV as a means of transportation from the South Shore to Montreal
  • a young mother who came to get her brand new EAV with a child seat
  • the couple interested in 2 folding eBikes for the chalet
  • a long-term client, who stopped in to say hello to the owners, telling me in passing to have lost 50 pounds since the purchase of his EAV
  • a young couple of European tourists wishing to rent Gazelle electric bike to explore Montreal

All these smiling and happy people. There was a lot of activity and energy in this shop!

And then, I was kindly offered to give it a try on the nearby bike path. Why not? Seeing these customers, my prejudices were starting to melt like snow in the sun!

It was a true revelation! I was won over! If an electric bike allowed me to go outside, improve my physical health and well-being while having fun, then it’s definitely for me !! and maybe for you as well?

My first 45 days

So, I bought my Gazelle CityZen the same day! Why this one in particular?

Firstly, I was attracted by its sporty look, the integrated battery and its ivory color. Then, by the technical characteristics:

  • Lightweight aluminum frame
  • Bosch Performance Line central motor up to 32 km/h
  • Excellent autonomy thanks to the 500Wh battery
  • Powerful Shimano hydraulic disc brakes

The following Saturday, my husband and I did our first bike ride, coordinated in unison!

Throughout the summer, our bike rides multiplied, having fun and at times passing him and waiting for him to catch up! A nod to a bygone era!

As my schedule allows it, I sometimes ride my Gazelle on my own, free as a bird and with complete trust and confidence!

For our next summer vacation, we plan to bring our bikes to explore new horizons. We purchased a THULE bike rack from QUANTUM.

I have the wind in my sails, but I will stop here, and save the rest for another time.

I think you will agree that an electric assisted bicycle changes your life, and can solidify a mariage!

Diana

Let’s face it, global warming is a reality whether you believe it to be man-made or not and there are many ways that each and every one of us can help do our part to slow down the effects of our planet heating up and electric bikes may be part of the solution. According to Berkeley Earth, our planet was on average 1.0 degree warmer than the 1850-1900 average temperature, making it “unambiguously” the warmest year on record. That’s a scary fact to consider. The warming of our planet means that sea levels are rising which wreaks havoc on coastal wildlife and fragile marine environment like the Great Barrier Reef. The effects are not only limited to marine life though, mammals and insects all feel the changes that are upon us and must adapt – or face extinction. It is up to us humans to reconsider our choices and way of life in order to make more conscientious decisions regarding our food, lifestyle and transportation.

Congestion, what congestion?

One of the easiest changes a person can make is regarding their transportation choices. With more and more of the population living in cities, growing congestion concerns in major metropolitan areas and our lack of spare time in our busy lives, the argument for electric bikes as an alternative mode of transportation is making a lot of sense. For example, the average distance a person travels to work when living in an urban environment is less than 6.5km (one-way). This distance can easily be covered by bicycle in much less time than it would take in a car, even on a day with little traffic. If we consider the congestion issues that are present in more and more urban cities (think Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and even Montreal!) it starts to become obvious which mode of transportation makes more sense from a time-saving perspective. Now, once you’ve reached your destination, you have to circle around to try to find a parking spot, then park and pay. I speak from personal experience when I say that I have sometimes circled around my destination for over half an hour in order to find a parking spot. Let’s now compare that to an e Bike which took half (or possibly less) time to get to your destination and maybe 90 seconds to find a bike rack, lock your bike and remove your helmet. The time savings are obvious and hard to ignore. As we all know, time is money and having more time to enjoy ourselves or get other tasks done is a no-brainier.

electric assisted bike

Live longer and happier!

Electric bikes are not only more time-efficient than a car for urban travel, they are also an excellent way to combat our increasingly sedentary lifestyle. A hundred years ago, our population was much more active in their day to day chores and their overall lifestyle and we had no need to supplement our day with physical activity. With the increasing ease at which we can order food to our front door, stream movies at home and video chat instead of meeting in person all contribute to an increasingly sedentary population with real, measurable effects on our health. Why not kill two birds with one stone and change your way of getting around? With an electric bike, you are able to be more efficient in your travel and you can stay in great shape! It’s proven that cycling will help your overall health including increasing your cardio vascular threshold, excess fat loss and, most importantly, your happiness. Studies show a strong correlation between happiness and living a longer life; thankfully electric bikes offer you just that.

An eBike for everyone

Now that we covered the financial and health benefits of switching to an electric bike, let’s cover one last point; the versatility of eBikes on the market today. Just like with vehicles, electric bikes come in all shapes and sizes depending on what you like, what you want to do with it and your personal preferences when it comes to brands, colors, options etc. For example, the delivery driver who makes dozens of stops every day with small parcels and boxes will usually drive some type of van. In many cities such as Montreal, New York, London and Amsterdam, these drivers have given up their trucks in exchange for electric cargo bikes. These eBikes come in multiple sizes and styles that will allow you to custom build them to your needs and specifications. Delivery companies have reported up to 3.5x more efficiency in their deliveries and a dramatic decrease in parking violations that cost these companies a fortune every year, not to mention lower maintenance costs when compared to a van.

For the office worker who needs something easy and versatile for their morning and evening commute to work, why not try a folding electric bike? These compact eBikes offer all the power of a full-sized eBike in a small, folding design that can be stored in the corner of your office or even under your desk! Gone are the days of rushing to find parking in the morning in order to be at your 9:00am meeting on time, you can now arrive at work, fold up your eBike and go right to your desk. Another benefit of this type of transportation is that the eBike assists you in your pedaling so you don’t arrive at your meeting with sweat stains and stinky feet which, let’s be honest, nobody wants!

Then, of course, there are the more “traditional” electric bikes which give you all the benefits of cycling, with the added feature of being able to zip through the city streets with minimal effort (when needed). Gone are the days of the one-size-fits-all eBikes. Today, there are dozens of great companies making a plethora of design styles. The hardest part today is choosing between all the amazing options on the market!

Environmental awareness: a win-win

At the end of the day, we all have to do our part for the environment. Why not make some small changes in your lifestyle that will also positively benefit our planet? Swapping your car for an eBike may seem like a huge change but you can start small and work your way up to where you feel comfortable. Even by taking your eBike to work just once or twice a week, you are greatly reducing your greenhouse gas emissions and benefiting from a healthier, more active lifestyle. It’s time to take action and rethink your transportation choices you’ll never look back!

Motor type, rider weight, wind speed…what else about your e bicycle range ?

One of the most common questions that we hear about electric bikes is about the average battery autonomy. In other words, how far you are able to travel with your eBike. This question is quite often difficult to answer, even for the electric bike specialists. There are so many variables that contribute to (or diminish) the battery range on an eBike. Let us try to explain a few main points that affect your battery autonomy on an eBike!

In this article, we would like to primarily focus on the electric assist bicycle equipped with a Bosch mid-drive motor. Bosch is the world leading manufacturer of eBike systems, occupying over 60% of the e bike market. It has won many consecutive awards for its system, for example the Red Dot Award on the Active Line and Active Line Plus models in 2017 and 2018.

Factors affecting the ebike autonomy

The right gear

One of the most common mistakes the new eBike owners make is fully relying on the electric assistance and forgetting about switching gears. The “correct” gear significantly saves the battery power. It is important to remember that your electric bike still works like a traditional one, and the assistance is there to help you pedal easier. And that you still have to switch gears while riding on different terrains. High gears are needed for when you’re going at high speeds on the flat or downhill – you are supposed to feel the pressure when you push on a pedal (torque). That’s what makes your bike go.  If you are approaching a hill and turning up your assistance level, remaining in a higher gear, you will exhaust your battery faster. Switching to the lower gear allows to easier climb hills. So it is highly recommended to remain conscious of the elevations and your speed, and switch gears to fine-tune the ride!

Weight of the rider and extra cargo

Another important factor would be rider’s weight and any extra cargo on the bike. The more significant the rider’s weight is, the more energy the engine would demand from the battery supply, therefore reducing the possible travel distance. The same goes for any cargo we strap onto our eBikes, basically every pound counts!

Elevation

Another factor would be the difference in elevation. A mountainous terrain, although offering beautiful sightseeing experiences, will reduce the overall distance you can travel. The elevation fluctuation requires more battery energy to support the motor when it is assisting you going up hills. On flat, even terrain the energy expense is significantly less because of the momentum created by the speed of the bike.

Stops and starts

Just like when riding a car, frequent stops and starts use a lot of energy power. It is, unfortunately, inevitable when you are commuting in a busy city with the constantly changing traffic lights. So when you are about to take of, switch to the lower gear and help your bike to start, instead of turning the highest assistance level. That might slow down your start but it would significantly impact the battery life.

Tire pressure

Keeping your tires pumped up is one of the most important bike life hacks that people sometime tend to forget about (another one being regularly oiling your chain). Low tires significantly drains your battery because now the motor has to work harder to maintain the speed. To avoid the sluggish ride and prolong the life of your tires, keep your ties at the proper pressure!

The Rider’s Posture and the Wind

The airdynamics is a key factor when we talk about speed. If your bike has a comfort style frame and you ride with a more upright position, you will have a harder time accelerating and maintaining high speed. And if you are relying on the assistance to help you gain the speed, it will drain the battery faster. Similarly, a headwind will affect the eBike range as you’re pushing against wind to maintain your speed.

Temperature

Batteries that experience the extreme cold of winters (like in Quebec for example) will not have the same range as a battery being used at, say, 15 degrees Celsius. Batteries do not like extreme temperatures, whether hot or cold and you will find that the greatest range will be achieved in mild temperatures. There are, however, ways to get around this. Many aftermarket companies have created protective, insulated cases for your batteries in order to keep them at a more constant temperature. This is ideal for anyone wanting to ride their electric bike in the winter!

The surface conditions

A smooth surface such as asphalt will allow more distance than on gravel or off-road paths.

eBike Motor

More powerful motors require more energy power. They accelerate faster. Bosch-equipped Ebikes offer four different levels of assistance; Eco, Tour, Sport and Turbo. With Turbo mode offering a 250% boost, you can imagine that you will get quite a bit less range in this assistance mode compared to Eco mode, which only outputs 50% assistance.

Why ride an eBike?

In Europe, electrical assist bicycles have been gaining steady popularity over the past decade. However, North America is still catching up with the trend. Electric bike is designed to improve the entire experience of cycling, helping you to go up steep hills and getting to places without perspiring or getting tired.

So how does it work?

When you start riding your eBike, the motor, based on your velocity, weight and other factors, kicks in and assist you in pedaling. It allows you to accelerate smoothly and go further distances. There are usually several levels of assistance that you can choose from, depending on how fast and easy of a ride you would like to have. Electrical assist bikes usually come in different styles and shapes, so everyone can pick something suitable to their needs. Whether it is for commuting to work every day or taking longer rides on rougher terrains.

There are a lot of benefits that an eBike can bring you – they can make your day to day commute a lot easier and ultimately improve the quality of your life! Here are our 7 main reasons why:

1.Get (and stay) in shape

Our first reason for getting an eBike is an obvious one. Cycling, whether by traditional or electric bicycle, is a great way to get in shape and tone your muscles. You’re not just working your legs on, you’re also strengthening your core, shoulders, and glutes, just to name a few. All while being low impact and easy on your joints!

In addition, eBikes are an ideal way to work on your cardio because you can select different levels of assistance, allowing you to build it up at your own pace. Feeling short of breath? Crank up the assistance until you stabilize your breathing. Breezing along without any effort? Turn the level assistance back down and get working!

2. Ride longer, and faster

Gone are the days where 75km rides seemed impossible. With an eBike by your side, this is no longer the daunting task that it once was. One fully charged battery on the electric bike will allow you to go as far as 110-130 kilometers. And, if you add an extra battery on your eBike, the distance doubles! Yes, we are talking about 200 kilometers bike rides! With electric bicycles, you can redefine your limits.

Besides, why not do it at a good speed too? Riding around at 10km/h is fun for a while but who doesn’t like to feel the wind in their hair? With an electrical assisted bicycle you easily gain speed up to 32km/h with the motor’s help. Certainly, there’s nothing like speeding past traditional cyclists without any effort.

3. Use on multiple occasions

There is a great variety of electric bikes  – cargo, tandem, folding, mountain, commuter, among many others. Stopping to buy groceries on your way back from work, or picking up kids from school, might become a way easier task with an eBike – cargo bikes allow you to carry larger loads with no effort involved! Other bikes, like commuter electric bikes, will not only reduce your travel times between home and work, but also allow you to take long distant camping trips and several day tours.

Another amazing option that exists within electric bike industry is a folding eBike – ideal for city living where storage is limited, or when you want to take your eBike with you on a trip –  it fits easily into the trunk of a car.

4. Avoid traffic

Tired of wasting your time in a traffic jam on your way to work? Today, most urban cities have incorporated bike lanes into their existing and future roadways. On an electric bike, you get access to these cycle routes that cars and motorcycles cannot reach. Moreover, an electrical assist bike also gives you an advantage of higher average speed than a regular bike, which means that you will be arriving to work faster and without breaking a sweat! You get to avoid all traffic jams and eliminate hills and headwinds, which makes eBikes the most reliable and fastest mode of transportation!

5. Save Money

Cars can be expensive – when you factor in gas, insurance, maintenance and the cost of the car itself, the figures may appear quite high. On the other hand, an eBike is relatively cost-free once you buy the bike itself. Yes, it does also need maintenance from time to time, but the difference in its price is substantial. Besides, electric bikes do not require a license or insurance, as well as parking and the cost associated with it! So think of the savings you can make by switching over to an eBike for most, if not all of your transportation.

6. Help the Environment

How much of carbon dioxide is emitted by your car on the daily commute to work? In contrast, eBikes are carbon-free, use very little electricity to charge the battery and only need some good old fashion elbow grease to get you from point A to point B. Besides, there’s nothing quite like a deep breath of fresh air on a warm summer morning. You’ll be experiencing a lot more of this once you stop using your car (or bus) in order to get around on your electric bike!

Conclusion

To conclude, riding an eBike is simply fun! You will catch yourself smiling all the time while you ride your electric bike. Being outdoors, relieving stress, saving money and being more efficient in your travels are all great reasons to smile!

The nice weather and sunshine will soon be upon us. Your thoughts go towards your bicycle that you enjoyed last year – the bike path by the water, the fun ride to work (the highlight of the workday, right?), the weekend in the country, even the quick spin to the market. But you also remember being passed by other cyclists on the bike path and the ride to work, by someone who’s speed and lack of effort defied reason. Yes, you remember being passed by an electric bicycle, or “eBike” for short.

Have you thought about the advantages of owning an electric bike? They are fun, addictive, fast, convenient, practical, and just like your old bicycle – but enhanced.

An electric motor and single battery can allow a range of assistance up to 120 kilometers. This will make rides possible that are out of the ability of an average cyclist. Some electric bicycles have two batteries. This can give you a range of up to 250 kilometers, and will make for epic rides or much longer distances before having to recharge the battery even crosses your mind.

Most eBikes have between 3 and 5 levels of assistance to enhance your pedaling effort. This means that you can put in most of the effort and the motor kicks in a little bit more, and with higher levels of assistance you can put in a little effort and the motor tops up the rest – propelling you to 32 kilometers (20 miles) an hour. However, please understand that eBikes are not motorcycles or even scooters, and that you must pedal to receive assistance from the motor – and there lies the fun and convenience of an eBike. You have the quietness of a bicycle with the speed of a scooter while, in most cities and municipalities, being allowed on bicycle paths and without the need to be licensed.

The need not to be licensed like a motor vehicle means an eBike becomes a viable alternative to ditch the car, give up your bus pass, and ride your bike to and from work. What it doesn’t let you do is arrive a sweaty mess and then struggle to find a parking space. Many eBikes already come equipped with racks so adding panniers for your dress shoes, lunch, and laptop is a snap. Bicycle riding certainly beats downtown stop-and-go traffic in your car or waiting for ‘the next bus because the last two were full’ and don’t even get me started on the price of gas. Electric assist bikes recharge for pennies, and how you chose to spend the amount you save on gasoline is up to you. Maybe a pair of new shoes, a nice night out, both, and more?

What goes down must go up again. Sir Issac Newton may not agree with that statement it is very true about hills that you encounter. There is an inverse correlation about hills with how much fun they are to ride down vs. how daunting they are to ride up. This is where an eBike really puts a smile on your face – to put in a fraction of the effort and find yourself at the top faster than you have ever done it on your own. There really are no words for this. Simply take an eBike for a test ride and find the nearest hill and you will see for yourself how it just seems to disappear behind you. You will wonder how such a small motor can perform so well.

The new technological advancements with bicycles with options such as replacing chains with no mess belt drive systems, ultra-wide range internal gear hubs for smooth shifting and also forgoing derailed chains has just been outpaced by electric motor and battery technology. Current motors (no pun intended) are quieter, smoother, more powerful, smaller (this means lighter too) and some companies have opted for ‘mid-drive motors in the crank area instead of in the wheel. Batteries are also more powerful in capacity and better engineered for longer life. The computers that regulate the motor and battery are also much more sophisticated today to give a smoother transition of power and to optimize how you use your stored energy. Many eBike displays have phone-like touch screens or large displays with minimal buttons and easy selections that make them very user-friendly.

All of this, bicycles frames with hidden wiring, the latest components, smaller motors, integrated batteries and controller, are now engineered to work together. Give it a try and see if you are not extremely surprised with the selection of electric bikes today. Whatever you choice in electric cycles’s – stay safe and have fun.

Quantum CR 18 eBikes Montreal Vélo Électrique Montréal Electric Bike

CR18 folding bike. It will change your life

Having suffered a herniated disc in both my back and neck at the ripe young age of 25, I had to take an extended break from cycling. This was devastating to me. Little did I know that hope would come through in the form of a folding electric assist bike CR18. As my search for summer employment came to a head when I first met Robert for an interview, I admittedly was skeptical as I had always considered myself a road cycling purist.

Electric assist bike?

What exactly was the point of an ‘electric assist bicycle’. I even thought the name, eBike, was a little off. Robert showed me around the shop, and it was until I witnessed the sale of a Quantum CR18 to a wonderful couple that I began to understood. Patrice and Genevieve had come into the shop with a particular query in mind. Patrice had a badly injured hip and thought he was on the mend, he was weary of re-injuring his hip. Robert and I showed him our folding Quantum CR18 to explain  why this would the perfect eBike to get him back on the road (and for that matter, myself too). Patrice was looking for a way to continue the sport he loved. With the Quantum CR18 in tow, Patrice was now able to commute to work with ease.

The Electric bike offers the ability for people with serious injuries, limited mobility and other restrictions to ride again. Even if you are in fine health with no injuries, the Quantum CR18 will suit your needs. Having worked here at Quantum eBikes for over 6 months now, I have compiled 7 advantages I believe the folding electric bike CR18 has over traditional bicycles.

1. The Quantum CR18 offers unmatched practicality

Amongst the many reasons I was distraught at the reality of not being able to cycle was the simple fact that I now had to forsake my cherished commuting method. Gone were the days that I was cycling freely along the Lachine Canal to work, enjoying an essential morning workout. Now my reality was filled with a burgeoning traffic crisis and a shoddy public transportation system. The Quantum CR18 changed that for me. This electric assisted bike is so light that it made transportation easy for me again. I needed some assistance to take the pressure off of my back and neck, the folding bike CR18 filled my commuting void with ease. This electric bike weighs only 19kg, meaning I did not have to lock my bike outside and could safely bring it with me. Its foldability makes this very easy to accomplish.

2. Perfect for urban or rural transport

Next came the test of bringing my CR18 down to my country roads to see if it would pass the test. I was instantly delighted at the fact that I no longer needed to deal with the hassle of installing a bike rack, mounting my bike, etc. Occupying a space of 0.35m3, this foldable electric bike fit neatly into the trunk of my car. With a battery that lasted well over 40km, I was able to enjoy the beautiful countryside again.

3. Extremely easy to use

Gone are the days of messing around with an overly complex user interface. The folding bike CR18 combines practicality with elegance. With a simple LCD screen on the handle bar, it is easy to choose how much assistance you want to employ on your bike ride. Also, there is a neat throttle feature throw in to boot. By simply holding the minus button down, the CR18 accelerates on its own. Again, being able to control your level of assistance is crucial here. The Quantum CR18’s 9 speeds allows for a seamless use of this feature.

4. Offers unmatched security advantages

This folding electric bike will quell your security fears. Having personally had two vintage road bikes stolen from me, I have grown weary of locking my bicycle outside. With a traditional bike frame, transporting a bicycle inside and out of an apartment or an office building can be cumbersome. As mentioned earlier, this folding electric bike occupies quite a small space and it is very light, meaning it can fit snugly into a closet or even under a desk.

5. Has a beautiful, sleek design

A slick metallic grey with 3 strong decal colors available, the Quantum CR18 will surely garner many looks. I’ve been stopped several times this past summer on my way to work by fellow cyclists curious as to how I was speeding so effortlessly past them. Light, compact and aesthetically pleasing, the Quantum CR18 is the complete package.

6. The Quantum CR18 moderately priced

Simply put, electric bikes are expensive. With electric components, this is an unescapable reality. However, as the industry evolves, prices are dropping as it is becoming cheaper to manufacture this parts. The Quantum CR18 offers a very competitive prices, especially for a foldable electric bike.

7. The folding bike CR18 offers an environmentally friendly method of transportation

A major reason for the burgeoning electric assist bicycle market is their near zero environmental impact. This practical, folding electric bike continues in this vein. It offers the possibility of anybody being able to commute long distances with ease. As electric charging stations are popping up everywhere, so charging this bike has never been easier. You can either charge the battery directly in the frame or easily remove it to charge wherever you need.

To conclude:

This electric assist bicycle gave me the opportunity to begin cycling again. If ever I feel pain in my back or neck, I can simply up my level of assistance to ease my burden. Weighing in at a light 19kgs, it is easy for me to bring this bike into my office and avoid any security concerns. It is for this reason that I highly recommend you come down to our shop on the edge of the Lachine Canal and try one of these folding CR18 bike for yourselves.

Electric Assist Bikes are here to change the way we commute.

It’s time to dispense with the myths and shatter the stereotypes traditionally associated with electric bicycles. Cutting-edge technologies, vast improvements in design and function, and a diverse variety allow anyone to find an electric assist bike that meets their needs. There are more models and options than ever before, giving consumers the ability to select what works for them. Increased power, battery-life, and reliability make this environmentally-friendly mode of transport worth investigating.

It’s not cheating

A lot of people have a misconception about electric bikes – that it works like a scooter, so what’s the point? In fact, they are called electric assist bikes for a reason – they are here to assist you while you are pedaling. The motor is only activated while the pedals are in motion. They are meant to help you ride your bike with greater ease, go further distances, climb hills and do other things that sometimes can be challenging on a regular bike.

Stromer ST1 Swiss eBike

More exercise than you think

Pedal a little or a lot; either way, you’re outside in the fresh air and you’re moving. Electric assist bikes can actually help you become more active, more often, and for longer periods. Having an electrically assisted bicycle does not necessarily make you a passive rider – it can enable even the most serious cyclist to go further, faster, and become stronger. A little assistance can help you go a long way. Let the motor kick in to help you get up a steep hill and carry on at the pace you choose. Keep up with other cyclists and avoid over-exertion that makes you exhausted or leaves you with sore muscles. Electric capacity can help develop muscular endurance – you don’t have to stop to give yourself a break. Build your stamina gradually while knowing that a bit of extra ‘oomph’ is in the motor if you need it. It’s not about sitting back while a motor does all the work for you, although that is an option if you choose. Pedal as long as you like with no resistance from the motor, and easily activate the electric mode to help you increase speed, power up inclines, or carry extra cargo.

Replaces your car

Getting to work is “no sweat” with an electric bike, and you won’t show up at the office, dripping and splattered, because your bicycle is equipped with mudguards. You don’t need to worry about expensive parking either. One electric bike user says her family doesn’t need a second car since they’ve purchased an eBike. There are significant financial benefits to electric bikes compared to purchasing, insuring, servicing and purchasing fuel for a car. Substantial savings while also being environmentally friendly and increasing your physical activity is a triple-bonus!

Navigate without the frustration of traffic congestion, construction detours, or parking nightmares! As with traditional pedal bikes, an eBike gives you the flexibility to move when and where cars and public transit cannot. Plus, in Canada you do not need to have a driving license to ride an eBike – an important factor that saves you time and money!

There is a right model for everyone

Need to carry equipment or shopping bags? Want to head out on a longer tour? Attach a baby seat? There are eBikes for that! Maybe you want to lock your bicycle using a smart-phone app, or fold it up and take it with you? That’s right, there’s an electric bike for that too! Whether it’s for the urban commute, sports, or leisure, you can choose a bicycle that matches your requirements. New eBikes are efficient, practical and convenient, and make getting around simple. Plug in for a recharge and be at full capacity in just a few hours.

There are comfortable commuter styles, mountain bikes, and hybrids. Customized settings and fully-integrated technology help make these bikes work specifically for you. Or choose a basic model for all the benefits without the bells and whistles. You can also choose your preferred look – from vintage-style to futuristic appearance!

“The Swiss Driving Experience With Stromer e bikes”

The Stromer electric bike offer an ultimate alternative to cars for urban transportation – fast, elegant and powerful an incomparable autonomy, power and versatility; not only are they good for the environment, they are not harmful to the environment, whilst being chic and stylish. Discover the new references for urban mobility with the Stromer, the best electric bicycles and permit me to talk to you about the engine, as well as its motorization.

On the Stromer ST1 engine, the torque acts directly on the rear wheel and turns into a propulsion. Conversely, with central engines, the torque is engaged before the derailleur gears, and is transmitted by the derailleur gear. It is therefore difficult to compare a central engine with an engine that’s integrated in the hub of the rear wheel. In the engine’s specifications, Stromer St1 review always indicates the nominal torque. The nominal torque is the torque that can be called over a period of time. The maximum torque is significantly higher

TDCM: Electric engine for bikes, Stromer the best and the most connected electric bike.

The ST1 Stromer bike uses a direct drive hub engine (like Bionx), which is manufactured by the Taiwanese company TDCM. Since 1995, TDCM focuses on the development and production of electric drive systems for electric bicycles, as well as for other applications, such as medical devices.

Their durability is well-known in the market. The TDCM configuration on the Stromer ST1 is an exclusive design for Stromer. The heart of the system is a direct drive, brushless motor with a nominal power of 500 watts and a minimum and maximum torque of 30 Nm and 40 Nm, respectively. Although it is heavier than others engines such as Bionx, the TDCM engine is an engine that has a lower sensitivity to heat accumulation during uphill climbing or downhill regeneration. By accumulating less heat, the electric motor enables you to have maximum propulsion on steep slopes. When climbing, it is preferable that your electric bicycle continually propels you to the top, without breaking.

Stromer uses a TMM4 torque sensor that is built into the rear output, unlike the Bionx engine which has a built-in controller on the engine. The advantage of the external controller is that, it is easy to maintain and it has a very high heat tolerance. The Stromer’s 500 watt electric motor is very reliable, maybe a little bit heavier, but has many advantages to cover-up for this inconvenience. This type of sensor for electric bike has for a very long time been used by the Dutch. It is reliable and well concealed on the bikes.

Let’s go straight to the point, is playing golf, in a golf cart actually a sport? … professionals walk.

Is fishing, with a motor boat a sport? … Hockey players no longer use wooden sticks …

technology is evolving, needs are changing, products are increasingly being connected.

Cycling is a sport that offers a lot to the human body. The electric bicycle offers much more … It is

there to provide the assistance. The electric bicycle enables people who’ve stopped riding, for

whatsoever reasons, to get back on the saddle.

Regulation leads us to a false perception, when we compare the regulations to Europe, in terms

of assistance.

They have 2 types of e Bicycles either for a maximum speed of 32 km/hour or 45 km/hour. They

have a start button from 1 to 6 km/hours. Thereafter, you have to pedal in order to activate the

engine.

The e bike here in Canada have considerably similar regulations, as those in the USA. Our

acceleration button enables us not to pedal to the 32 km/hour speed.

On cycling paths, we often see cyclists on electric bicycles, who ride up to a speed of 32 km,

without pedaling. And that was where some of the negative perception of electric bikes originated.

Perhaps it is the laws of the market, as well as our American-oriented legislation that leads us

towards a more negative perception.

In Germany a cyclist riding an e Bicycle is healthy, but that’s not the case here with us …

With the new models coming to us from Europe, we have to change that perception.

Long live the bike, long live the ebike
